Account Suspended – hacked? security cert issue?

Hi, Folks, hoping someone can help.

My daughter and I created a WordPress site. It worked as expected for several months, but when she tried to access it today for the first time in a couple of weeks, she got the following error message:

“Account Suspended: This account has been suspended. Contact your hosting provider for more information.”

When I tried to do so, WP wouldn’t let me log in, which meant I could not submit a support request…so, catch-22. Thinking there might be an issue with the credentials, I tried changing the password, but got an error stating that WP couldn’t find a matching username or email address.

When checking the security certificate, I see that it’s showing expired (even though we paid for a year in May of this year–very odd!). I considered trying to renew the cert anyway but wouldn’t be able to access the site to apply it…again, catch-22.

Any idea what might be going on? We received no notifications regarding the account or certificate, which seems very odd. Perhaps the site got hacked and WP shut it down? If so, what would the next step be to restore access?
