Smart Slider 3 not showing in custom page template

I created a custom page template with the intent of including a full width element background and putting the slider on top of that. I’m embedding the shortcode and it is not showing up. The slider shortcode works when I just include it in the pagecontent area but is NOT working within the custom page template.
