Spam on contact form | WordPress.org

Hello,

I know next to nothing about using WordPress, but now find myself in a role in which I have to figure out how to manage our site going forward. I will refer to the number of resources and training from a broader perspective but trying to fix our contact form. Right now, the way it was set up it, we get a TON of spam submissions sent to our email through this daily. How do I set this up to prevent this from happening, or at least less? Are there any how to’s already out there that someone can reference me to so I can alleviate this burden?
