Home page: How to remove a disturbing surface?

پاسخ ها: 0

Hi,

first of all: I have little prior knowledge, so I can't even easily create a simple HTML page that contains much more than a few simply embedded images and very modestly formatted text. But I have to maintain a homepage for a club. The only person among us who is more knowledgeable is busy with other things and has even less knowledge of graphics than I do.

Probably a year ago a white space appeared on our home page (“…/home/”). The page-specific content can be scrolled, a header bar (with menus) is always the same and static, and a footer bar is always at the bottom of the movable content. The white area lies above the home page content: after opening, it only covers the lower part – and when scrolling, it moves up (faster than the background image) until it fills the space between the header and footer.

A helper who is a little more familiar with HTML managed – he cannot explain exactly how – to remove or hide the white interfering area at the beginning of summer. But it's been back for a short time now without anyone having done anything about it.

When you click through the menus and submenus, which are unfortunately not very clear (I don't dare change anything about the apps, plugins or themes because I don't know what has which effect on what and in what way), you'll see the home page (i.e. its moving, filling background image) with a white area that looks like the offending element appeared, and on top of it a pale input request (seemingly disappearing when text content was entered), apparently for a contribution. Our suspicion therefore: this could be the area (in a textless placeholder version) on which the first post text would appear.

Since we don't need blog-like posts, but rather create a separate page for each xlub event and link them via a menu that can be accessed from any of our pages, we looked for a way to make this post (or placeholder) area disappear: except for the chance success I mentioned above that unfortunately cannot be reproduced for us and is only temporary without any result.

I discovered a thread about it in the general questions subforum (but can't exert the solution suggestions without help):
https://de.wordpress.org/support/topic/beitraege-auf-der-beitragsseite-ausblenden/#post-164343

Regarding the second option mentioned there (ruling out the problem via function.php): I have no idea what function.php is like, nor where I can find it, and what I would then have to do.

The first suggested possibility is to install the Ultimate Category Excluder: I did exactly this, but I can't find any hint telling me where I might be able to see categories so the one in question could appear under them in order to be hidden (I can't even find the above described discovery again), and even much less can I fancy how and where I might define such a category, if necessary.

Now, a forum moderator explicateed to me that it is the theme I use which determines the output in the frontend – and this theme is Hestia.

Best regards,
Felix
