Anti-Spam for UM 2.6.7 / WP-Bruiser no longer working

We were happy users of UM for years. Thanks much for the great plugin btw!

To fight login spam we used WP-Bruiser which was VERY effective.

Unfortunately WP-Bruiser is no longer working with the UM 2.6.7 security fixes – and the plugin is no longer maintained. So we had to disable it unfortunately.

As we are based in Europe, Google Recaptcha or similar non GDPR compliant services are a clear no go for us.

Is there a recommendation for another anti-spam solution – preferably similar to WP-Bruiser (w/o using 3rd party services) or a GDPR compliant alternative?
