Looking for options for multi-site (not Network) updater

I’ve got what I think is a pretty different requirement for a client and want to see if anyone else out there may have some ideas about how I can approach this.

What I will have is a group of sites owned by the same client. Each site will have different content and different pages, but they will all share a common theme and some custom plugins for additional functionality. What I need is a way that I can keep the remote sites updated with theme and plugin updates as they are released.

The sites may be on any number of different servers, so there’s no way to make them all “centralised”, which makes this more difficult.

Are there any solutions out there that can handle updates for custom themes and plugins as well as possibly some post types (standard and custom) that can work in with any number of remote sites?
