Communications Specialist


General Statement of Duties
To create website experiences that inform families, community stakeholders, and the general public about Henrico County Public Schools. Provide guidance to school-based web content editors and central administration personnel in the creation and management of websites.

We would like all applicants to provide links to websites that that they are (or have been) responsible for designing or maintaining. Links to a digital portfolio would also be helpful during the application process.

Essential Duties
Design and maintain district and school-based websites using WordPress in accordance with latest Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) for digital accessibility:
Perform web page updates: text, graphics, links, embedded video, news releases, real-time links for live streaming etc. primarily on www.henricoschools.us
Create custom pages as required: design/layout, text, graphics, links, embedded video
Create custom sites for departments including design/layout, graphics, banner headers, forms
Support and provide training for 70+ schools/facilities/departments
Edit photos for use on websites
Assist personnel with technical questions regarding WordPress
Assist with selection and writing of social media posts
Produce high quality PowerPoint presentations for the School Board, Superintendent, and Assistant Superintendents
Attend work daily; engaged in job responsibilities. Occasional “after hours” work required to support live streaming of School Board meetings and other matters of public interest
Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
College degree preferred with at least three years experience in website development and design. Strong understanding of web accessibility strategies and guidelines with the ability to train other employees and troubleshoot problems. Experience using the Apple OS and Windows platforms required. Skills needed include WordPress, HTML 5, CSS 3, PHP, Java Script, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Word, PowerPoint, Excel. Knowledge of WCAG standards for digital accessibility a significant plus.

Additional Information
This is a 260-day (12 month) position located at Central Office.

Starting salary for this position is $49,412.92
